Hello Bernice,
Yesterday I found a birth record for William Edmund Swain in Basford, Derbyshire,d.o.b.24-08-1909. Prior to that I thought he was born in Ilkeston. He lost his birth certificate 3 times , being bombed out in the war, and, according to him, the copies were never identical. I've only just started to research my father's family - other avenues were much easier to begin researching (for a novice)and he was never very forthcoming. I would vastly appreciate any help at all.

Kind regards,
Jan

Hi Janice - when and where was your father born so we can find out brothers names etc, it would be a start.

Kind regards

I am trying to trace my father,William Edmund Swain's six brothers. Dad was the seventh child and his mother died having him. He was spirited away by maiden aunts to live in Melton Mowbray, but ran away at age fourteen to Birmingham. He heard that his brothers had all emigrated, but never found out where to. His father, Thomas Swain, died early 1950's and,I think, was still living in Derbyshire.
