If you got a copy of the marriage cert it would at least give her Father's name...might be helpful in tracing her on census info!

Do you have the marriage cert to James Weston? If she was married previously the marriage should be in that name with the maiden name also shown. It will also give her fathers name and occupation.

Take it this is the marriage - you can buy the certificate for £7 from GRO online using the reference given. The certificate will help you verify the correct line to follow backwards:

I'm looking for the background and ancestry of Annie Atkins (possible maiden name, or may also be Gardner) later Annie Weston following marriage to James Weston in 1916. Central Leicester residency, possibly also birth from census information.

Annie had two children - my grandfather Alfred and my great aunt Gladys. Both children carry the surname of both their (unmarried?) parents - I believe their father was also called Alfred Towers.

Annie lived at 7 Broughton Street, Leicester in 1920 - this is named on her son's birth certificate.
