Hi, I am looking for details of my fathers family, MMN was Palmer no other details, My father was Raymond Sidney Charles Chapman bn 1931 died 1965 in Eltham se london, clutching at straws! yes I know but its all I can do.

Would this be your grandparent's marriage? If so getting the marriage certificate would give you the names and occupations of the fathers. This would perhaps lead to them being located in the 1901 census.

Hi, I have absolutely no idea if this is my grandparents the only details I have is my fathers name, his exact dob is unknown bn in Lewisham and died in Eltham 15/03/1935, so anything you can add to that would be fantastic and greatly appreciated.

Ray,
Raymond S C was born in Lewisham in the first quarter of 1930, Volume 1d Page 1268. Mother's maiden name Palmer as you said.
You would need to get this birth certificate first to show parents names and then the marriage certificate if it's the right one. Then we can start working back.
There are quite a few Alfreds around in London around the 1900s and that is just a guess.
