Unfortunatley my own grandfather died before i was born,( 1947 ) but he was a Piano tuner and part time musician in Melbourne, as was my father and his brother.( musicians ) Its quite possible given the era, that he knew of, or came across Victorine PETT in his travels around Melb.

Wow! Thanks a lot Tony. I had no idea there were so many children from that marriage. Are there any descendants still alive in Australia? Maybe I could put a small add in one of the Melbourne papers, or do you think one of them will eventually contact me via GR? Surely there can't be any more information that you could send me?
Tell me more about your Grandfather. Did he know her well? Is he still alive? My Mum (Carol) is now 89 and still busy writing her memoirs.
My 2nd Cousin John Pett, who lives in the U.K., has recently visited Melbourne with his wife Penny, but has not told me anything about what he saw, who he met, etc... whilst out there. A shame really.

I had not realised you had put information in the Community section of GR. Thank you so much. This is the Mme. Pet!. It feels like you and I are bringing her gradually back to life. This is a Lady that deserves a lot of recognition for all she went through prior to her parent's death. Mme. Pett was truly quite a formidable person in her own right. I am sure I have a photo or two of her in the many albums that I retrieved from my great Grandmother Florence Pett (nee de Frece).

No, I have not done so yet. I am hoping that relatives in Melbourne or in the U.k. will answer my request, as I do know that there are still some Petts out there and in the U.K.. It is just a question of where are they?

Known as Madame Pett (c1837) nee Victorine GIBBINS. Died 1915 in Ardale, Australia. She originally came from France (Tours) and married an Australian from Melbourne named Warwick Weston PETT.
Mme. Pett is attributed as being the person who brought the first piano over from Europe to Melbourne. She was a trained concert pianist and gave private lessons to many people (especially children) in Melbourne. They had several children (see listing below sent by Tony).
Does anyone out there know any of these people or of their descendants (see info. below sent by Tony)? My great Grandmother, Florence Pett (b.1877) (nee de Frece) was her son Frederick's wife. Their children were Florence Adele (1898-1976) and Warwick.(c1902)
