I really think it IS the same Arthur Charles Kilby but, in answer to your question, I don't know how to move forward at the moment and have to take a break just now.

Try putting up a new thread about Parkhurst Prison in 1901 - also try searching on google.

I will have a further look and a think for you tomorrow.

Why do you think Arthur would be in the orphanage & not with the rest of his family? and a long way from 'home'.
Are we sure that it is the correct Arthur???

Also - if it IS my Arthur in Parkhurst Prison, do we know why & for how long??????

You are correct - I have also found Elizabeth + family now on 1891 +1901. - I wondered why I couldn't find a death for Elizabeth, but I believe it is probably the correct Arthur Charles in the Orphanage??

I will try to see what happens to him.

Wow - thanks Dea, sorry to be so confusing at the start! I had found a pos John in Barrow, Leic but with an earlier birth date ( sometimes census dates of birth are a little out)? as most of my family came from barrow -it was worth checking out.

However, I know that MY John Kilby was born 1858 and died aged 30 - he was a prof of music - so I guess that the parents details you have found for him are likely to be the corrent ones - as it shows his father (also John ) as a musician.

I wondered what had happened to llittle Arthur - so now I have a wolverhampton connection too!
Unfortunately, I dont have Ancestory - is it pos to look the family up a bit more for me please??? How did you find him? are there any more details?
Can we find Johns parents in a later census please, just to see what happens to them?
Do we know when Elizabeth died & where?

Do you have access to Ancestry?

The reference I gave you shows 'your' John aged 3 on 1861 with his parents John + Ann and sisters Mary Ann + Sissy.

'your' John died in 1888 (his wife Elizabeth, I believe also died before 1891 as their son Arthur was in a home for orphans in Wolverhampton..

This is all that I currently know about John Kilby:

In 1881 census , John was 23 Head of Household & Professor of Music, living at 19 Shenton St, Leicester., with his wife Elizabeth, Daughter Hettie 1yr and Son Arthur C 7months. - Arthur does not appear on 1879 census or subsequent ones.(died ?)

in 1891 Family minus John were living at 25 George st, St Margarets, leicester. and in 1901 at 7 Real Street, Leicester.

P.S. - You started with a John c1853 Barrow on Soar?????

They are not the same one - are you sure the 1881 John is 'your's'?

Marriage for 'your' John's parents:

John Kilby m Ann Gilbert - Leicester 7a 242 - March Q 1855.

1861 confirms this with the 6 year old visitor Harry Gilbert.

Your John died in Leicester 1888 - named as John Thomas which all fits.
