So Sheila -- what enormously stupid thing do you suppose I did, that I couldn't find the Currie - Walton marriage at FreeBMD?? (but can now ...)

Switched surname and given name, I suppose ...

Hi Maggie, Ada L Currie married a George F Walton in Sep qt 1921,in Grimsby. on freebmd their son also George F was born March qt 1922.

I cant find the marriages for the children on the Grimsby Marriage cd,sorry

If you search at FreeBMD for a Henry Currie + Bruce marriage, you'll see that she was Ada Louisa Bruce.

If that *is* your Ada, you're on your way!

The image says that Ada's father Henry is married, but her mother isn't in the household.

There is no birth that matches your info very precisely, but perhaps the Ada born in 1898 in Gateshead is your Ada.

Do you know her mother's name? Have you looked for them in the 1901 census to see what info might be there?

Do you know when she married Mr. Walton?

FreeBMD is just getting up around 1920 with its transcribing of the indexes now. A search for Ada Currie marrying a Walton (anytime, anywhere) produces no results, so their marriage probably hasn't been transcribed yet. Check back regularly, as transcribing progresses.

However, one birth seems to have been transcribed -- search for

births
surname Walton
mother's surname Currie
(mother's surname only appears for births after mid-1911)

and you'll find what seems to be George's birth in 1922.

That won't give you any info you don't have already, though. It's the marriage certificate that will give you Ada's father's name -- or the birth certificate that will give you both parents' names.
