I've just joined and am trying to find out more about my father's side of the family. I've got very little information - my grandfather was Thomas Daniel Poole b: c1900 who married Elizabeth Ann/Ann Elizabeth (Cissie) Salter (b: 1901) and lived in Dudley. I'm fairly sure that Elizabeth was born in Netherton and suspect that Thomas was born there or in nearby Dudley as well.

Thomas had at least one sister - Mildred who also lived in Dudley and I think that Elizabeth had a brother Frederick who lived in Birmingham. Both Thomas and Elizabeth were deaf due to measles infections when young. Thomas was a self-employed shoe-maker and carpenter and Elizabeth went to Dudley Intermediate School, which later became Sir Gilbert Claughton Technical Grammar School.

Does any of this seem familiar with anyone? Many thanks.

David, you really need to get the marriage certificate for Thomas and Elizabeth, this will give you their father's names and occupations. With that information you can then search for the families in 1901. Have you any idea when they got married?

I can only find one Thomas Poole age 7mths in Birmingham in 1901 but you really need to know his father's name to say whether or not this is the right Thomas. On the census the father is also Thomas and the mother Louisa, his occ is Brass Bedstead Polisher.

Thanks Jennifer. I've just learned a very basic rule about this - to get my information straight beforehand! My g/father was Daniel not Thos. Daniel and he was borne in Rowley Regis in 1894. He married my g/mother Ann Elizabeth (not Elizabeth Ann) in 1922 and died in 1975. I'll try to get a copy of the marriage certificate from my aunt in order to get names for censuses in the 1800s.

Thanks Michelle, looks as though you could be right. My memory has been jogged about my grandmother taking about Amy, her sister-in-law. When I was young, I asked where my father's middle name (Thos.) came from and thought I was told it was from my grandfather. It could easily have been my gt. grandfather and explains why I thought he was a Thos. Daniel. I hope to get this bit confirmed fairly soon. Thanks again.
