Gill, Beatrice is his wife's mothers name!

Gill,

It wasn't Beatrice E. Matthews that was getting married in 1937 - it was her son or daughter.

I have just search 1937 for Beatrice E Matthews, gone through it twice and can't find it, are you sure you have the right year.

David, you do not require the fathers forename, just do as mentioned before, enter the type of event, then tick the "Is the General Register Office Index known? yes button, enter the year, fill in the delivery details, then see this at the top "Either the man's surname and forename or woman's surname and forename must be given."
Enter one or the other (brides or grooms details). Enter the reference details and carry on.

I've just gone onto the GRO site myself and started to fill in the order form and it only asks for the person's name who is getting married - not the father's name. Have you clicked to say "yes" the GRO reference is known?

kath
this is what ive tried to obtain a copy with
4th qtr 1937 dartford
names of the bride & groom

thank you all for your info

I can't understand this at all, because I have ordered loads of marriage certificates from the GRO and I have never given parent's names. All you need is the information that you find in the GRO index (name, year, qtr. district, volume number and page number - you don't even need the spouse's name).

All you need to order a marriage certificate is the reference numbers and year and qtr plus one of the couple's names. You don't need father's name.

You don't need the fathers forname in order to order a marriage certificate - just the name of bride or groom and the GRO reference.

hi
i suspect that the answer to my question to the following will be i have to get a birth cert to obtain a fathers forename
i have tried to order a marriage cert on line but this must have fathers forename on application
this i dont know i know his mothers maiden name was matthews
is it poss to trace the required details any other way other than a birth cert ??
thank you for your time
