Totally Stumped on pre-BMD relative from Kent

Merindi Report 4 Jan 2008 08:05

Hi
I'm completely stuck on my GGGGrandfather Sylvannus (or William) Curd. He seems to appear in the 1841 Census at Greenfield Place, Deptford with his wife, daughter and son. There he is listed as William Curd, shipwright. He pops up again in the 1861 census living with his son's family at Mornington Rd Greenwich (as Sylvannus Wm Curd, retired shipwright).

But, as he married Elizabeth Barham before the BMD I'm stuck finding information on his parents. I'm not sure whether the name Sylvannus (which is unusual) indicates that he may be a non-conformist???

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to from here? I've tried as many of the online parish registers I can think of, and get nowhere.

Any help gratefully received
