Can anyone tell me what is the minimum information required for GRO to search for a marriage. I know bride's name and maiden name ( she had been married before) , groom's name and name of brides father. I also know year of marriage. I am not sure where they got married. Is this enough information for a search?

Not really, do you want to post the details & we will have a loo?. Send them PM if bride or groom are still living

What do you mean by a search? Do you want to buy the certificate? If so, all you need is the reference with what you have already. If you put the details here, I'll look it up for you. If you'd rather not then pm me.

Have you tried to find the marriage on any indices?

In which year did the marriage occur?

I've already posted the information on this site but no-one could find it.
Anyway here goes again
Bride Mary Adams maiden name Richards father Benjamin Richards
groom Herbert Jones
married 1852
Bride from Clunbury (Clun) groom from Stanton Lacy (Ludlow) but could have been married elsewhere

In answer to a previous question I do want to buy a certificate. Do I take it that the GRO cannot search for the record with the info I have got unless I have the reference also?

Vivienne, how do you know they married & what year if you can't find it?

I remember this one now...........many people tried to find the marriage..........none succeeded.

I think you may have to accept that they did not actually marry........

I have checked all marriages for both Herbert Jones & Mary Adams 1852 & found nothing that matches.

Maybe you are right and they did never marry. It is strange though that I also had difficulty tracing the births of their children. After trying all the GRO references a lady at the Shropshire record office managed to find them!
So you never know!
Thanks for all your help anyway

Have you actually got the death cert of Mary's first husband?
