Hi can anyone tell me what it says on the 1871 Census for Augustus Wilmot.

He is in Aldershot Hampshire in the Army but can't work out what Rank he is. He is between Corporal and Private.

My husband i both looked and its drummer he would have been a musician in the army.

Samantha, It means that he played the drums in his regimental band,

yes he was still a real soldier so would have army records

Hi

Yes he would have army records.The drummers normally in this era would be used as stretcher bearers in battles and would carry the injured back to field hospitals.
