If his father's name was not on the marriage entry, then I'm afraid he was illegitimate.

Trying to trace Gt Grandfather John Wild. Here is the info l have, married Sarah Haigh on 14th Nov 1852 St Chads Church Saddleworth (Yorkshire at this time) both living in Austerlands which is part of Saddleworth John is 22 batchelor cotton piecer and Sarah 23, Johns fathers name was blank on the marriage entry in the parish records, have found a baptism for a John Wild son of Mary Wild 10th May 1829 Greenacres Moor Oldham again no father, this does tie in as Saddleworth later became part of GT Manchester and is adjacent to Oldham , also all later family lived in Greenacres area. My problem is l can find no record of John in early census's and if l don't know his fathers name how can l find his parents?Have looked for Mary but there are loads of them and cannot tie her and John up together, have looked at both Lancs and Yorks census, any ideas anyone?
Thanks Lynne
