One of my contacts has asked if I can help find this chap - and I have drawn a blank. Info I have for him:

Albert Royal Male
b: 30 Mar 1848
Devonshire, England
d: 6 Oct 1950
Bellflower, California, usa

I cant find him in a UK census, nor a birth registration.

Help! (pretty please)

Sue

Are those dates correct?

Bit unusual for someone born back then to live to be 102

Diane Report 5 Jan 2008 23:30

Have looked in the indexes for Q1 and Q2 1848, although some "Male"s listed, no Alberts...

Following on from Glitterbaby's astute observation...

is this any good?

Claire... I did wonder, until I looked it up... but I didn't spot he was over 100!

I believe the surname is MALE and not hyphenated or whatever. I did try searching the census for an Albert Royal - wondering if he was base-born and mother later married.

Diane - that's the closest found so far.

All I have found is a birth on the LDS site which gives 30 March 1852 - members submission. And a tree on Ancestry gives same info I have been given - but no parents.

The member of Ancestry with Albert Royal Male listed can be contacted

California death records have Albert Male (mother's maiden name Roberson) born 30 March 1848, died 6 Oct. 1950, Los Angeles, California

Hi Glitter - yes, I shall contact that member but doubt they have any more info than I have been given already.

Elouise - yes, I have found that with my Alberts too. But without knowing who the parents are, it's difficult.

The 1930 US census has Albert Male born abt 1850, England, living in Los Angeles. I can't see details, don't have access.

Well done Glitter - that's him. I looked for him on the LDS Census but had no luck.

Am hoping now that someone has access to emigration records - I think he left England with his parents..... well hopefully. lol

Thank for everyone else for their help too!

Susan when do you think he left England?

Diane

Diane Report 6 Jan 2008 12:07

Susan, that census birth date is close enough to match that birth record I found, and Plympton is in Devon.

Have you tried Theshipslist for passenger lists?

MargaretM Report 6 Jan 2008 12:42

I see, on the 1880 US census his wife was born in Canada. Do you suppose he came to Canada first or did his wife emigrate to Michigan before marriage?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 6 Jan 2008 12:52

Could this be the marriage on Familysearch?
Albert Male married Matilda J. Robinson, 23 Oct.1870, St. Clair, Michigan.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 6 Jan 2008 12:57

Also on Familysearch.
Alice Male born 31 Aug.1872, Alpena, Michigan. Parents Albert Male & Matilda.
Thomas Roderick Male, born 21 Jan.1874, Alpena, Mich. Died 12 Oct.1965. Parents Albert Male & Matilda Roxana Robinson. (Caution! this one's a submitted record.)
The other children from the 1880 census are on Familysearch, too, but all submitted records.

I know Albert married Matilda and that she is supposed to be from Canada but dont know if that is where he first emigrated to, and then crossed the boarder. I know quite a few emigrants did this.

Wayne - I have no idea when he emigrated. I am waiting to hear back from my contact - hopefully with more info.

Diane - I agree they seem the most likely match so far. Going to check out the chap in Jersey too.
