Trying to obtain the date of birth of a groom

Hi,

Can anyone help? I know Elsie Stevens married George Gutteridge in 1910 in Derbyshire (via freebmd). I would love to know what George's date of birth was so I can go further back on his side of the family. Is there anyway of doing this without paying for the marriage certificate (which is a bit pricey)

Thanks
Helen

Have you looked at the 1901 census, its fair to assume that he would have been 10ish or older.

Also look at FreeBMD around 1890 and see if any correspond to the info found on the census.

There is no substitute for a certificate - remember NEVER pay more than £7.50, it will tell you age, occupation, fathers details (assuming he wasn't illegitimate), where he was living. You may even get some clues from the names of witness

Thanks Jim & MB.

MB - where can you obtain certificates for such a cost? I keep finding webpages advertising them for £25 - £50!
