Grrrr
Well I have Dinah Checkley marrying Abraham Lucas - got that
Dinah birth /christening b- 1831 baptised 28 july 1833 Foleshill - parents William & Mary
Now trying to find siblings of Dinah but 1841 coming up as James & Mary as her parents (is it a differant Dinah- tho not a popular name I would have thought)

Hi Deb,

There are eight separate people called Dina* in Foleshill in 1841, born between 1825 and 1835. However, there is only one Dinah Checkley.

What does Dinah's marriage certificate say? It seems at the moment that there is the baptism reference (the William and Mary above look to be too young to be Dinah's parents, even with the 1841 rounding down of ages, but I suppose it is not impossible) - and James and Mary with Dinah on the 1841 census.

The 1841 census does not give relationships - is it possible that William and Mary were an oder couple who died, and James is uncle (say) to Dinah? There are only 10 Checkleys on the 1841 census, so with the parish register baptisms and marriages, it may be possible to reconstruct the families?

Thankyou Ivy
Done a quick search on IGI for the births of children to a James & Mary Checkley - no Dinah coming up.
But does for William & Mary .
BUT
then do get baptisms for exact area for James & Mary wondering if James is William's brother .

Hi Deb,

THere is a lot on the IGI for Checkleys in Warwickshire - it includes the baptism registers for the parish church for the whole of this period. However, the christenings for James and Mary's children, and Dinah's christening, were at the non-conformist church. Some Checkley baptisms are late (eg Elizabeth born around 1820, baptised at age 15).

It's going to need some teasing out to get the families sorted out...

By the way, there are no marriages of William Checkley to Mary in Foleshill - but the are five possible marriages in Warwickshire. How close is Foleshill to a county boundary?

Ivy
The proximities are pretty close for the Warick marriages , Bulkington is a stones throw away from Foleshill the other 2 are not that far either , I think I am right in saying that Monks Kirby may have been under the Folesill registration at 1 point( not 100%) and it too backs onto Bulkington also

Hi Jim, Deb,

The 1841 census is unlikely to be much help. Aside from the two families listed above, there are four other Checkleys, all employed, all at separate households around Foleshill -
James aged 15 (poss to 19)
Elizabeth aged 20 (poss to 24)
Maria ditto
and Thomas aged 45 (to 49?)

There are quite a few Checkleys if you widen the search to Bulkington and Monks Kirby - and that takes you close to the A5, which I seem to recall marks the Warwickshire county boundary with Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

I think I would get that marriage certificate, if you haven't already, and then start reviewing what is available by way of cross-checks between baptisms and census info - it doesn't look to be a speedy way forward!

All the best
