The possibilities are that they died or emigrated or in Margaret's case married, or the name is badly transcribed or they just missed the census for some reason. The odd thing is that are both missing and I would not have expected them to be together. It's very difficult with common names (I was amazed how many Samuel Turner's there are) so unless he used his middle name somewhere it will be hard to find him. As they are missing from 1891 and 1901 emigration seems a possibility. Not much help.

Sorry, Julia, I can't find anything except for the father with his new wife, Harriet, in 1891 but I expect you already have that.

Yes Micheal I have tried all of them as best I can.
Potty - yes they were living in two households, as their mother had died just before the census.
Many thanks to all - Julia

Yes Margaret, that information is correct, they were all one family, their mother dying just before the census. Great Gidding comes/or did come under Oundle, which is where I had her birth certificate from, with her full name as Margaret Eliza Wells Webster Turner. Many thanks - Julia

Have you checked marriages for Margaret? Have you checked deaths and emigration for both?

MargaretM Report 7 Jan 2008 17:15

On the 81 census Samuel W. Turner, born 1870, Whittlesey is living with his aunt, Annie Turner in Whittlesey but there's no Margaret or Eliza in that household.
There's Eliza Turner, 17, living next door with her widowed father, William. Says she was born St. Gidding, Hunts.

I was impressed by the help Midland Margaret got to her near impossible question, and thought I'd try again. I have the two following people in their family's census for 1881, then they both vanish. They are brother and sister, Margaret Eliza Wells Webster Turner b. 1864, - in the 1871 as Margaret, and in the 1881 as Eliza, but I have her birth certificate and that is her proper name, and brother Samuel Webster Turner b 1870. Margaret's birth was registered in Oundle, and Samuel's in Whittlesey, and they lived in Whittlesey at the time of the 1881. Samuel should not be confused with his cousin of the same name, from Norfolk.I hope this is not too cheeky an ask, and I am able to stay at the computer until 6.00, although I know it may take alot longer than that. Many thanks in anticipation. - Julia
