Trying to find Vincent

My grandfather, Charles Henry Vincent was an old contemptable being a regular soldier on the outbreak of war in 1914. He had already served in India and Weymouth, I know this from my mother Veronica Cole (nee Vincent). I believe my grandfather served in the Devonshire Regiment but I don't know which batalion. At some stage he was discharged with the effects of being gassed at the front . On 11th Nov, 1927 he had a military funeral at Widecombe-in-the-Moor, this was recorded in The Mid Devon Advertiser. I would like to find out more about his army service , to date the army has not been helpful in any way. I am at a loss to find more details, can you help?
