I am looking for info on my ggrandmother Violet Atkins(Formally Mason)
What does this mean?
Is Mason her birth surname? or was she a divorcee?
i've been tracing the name "Atkins"but i've got a feeling i've been barking up the wrong tree!(excuse the pun)and should really be tracing the name Mason.
Violet married my ggrandad(william Downs) in 1922 and went on to have 8 children:William (died at birth),Edward,Leonard(my grandad),silvia, danny, violet, doris and david.
If anyone can shed any light on this or recognizes any of the names i will be eternally grateful!

Hi Michelle,
Have you got William and Violets marriage certificate ? If so what Exactley does it say on it? ie ages and what does it say on Violets surname !!

I should say I am not a relative at all--I just saw your posting and trying to help you.
I would normally agree with Julie, but on the childrens birth index it does say "mothers maiden name ATKINS" (thats if I have found the right indexes --where they born Southwark district ? )
I have also sent a PM.
All the best

Hi Julie,
For the same index on this marriage is a Violet A Mason (Dec 1922--Southwark 1d 182) but her spouse is written as DAVIES---I think someone may have made a mistake while transcribing from the parish records to the pages we see !!!

Going for another look, catch you later. PM me if you like. (I love a good mystery !! :-) )
All the best Julie
Barbara.
