hi everyone
i have recived the marriaage cert for my gt gt grandfather JOSEPH MAY the reason i sent for it was that the lady who he married SUSANNAH WALKER yep walker theres hundreds of them so thats why i sent for it but having now got it its a very badly written one it was his 1st marriage they were only married a few months & she died anyway back to the cert it states that susannnah,s father was called john walker but his occupation is unreadable i have loooked for her with her parents prio to her marraige but coming up with nothing i can find one with a james but not a john can anyone help locate her here is what i know

she married in july 1871 to joseph may her age is given as 19 spinster so i calculate her birth to be c 1852 at time of marriage she was living at close street in leeds west yorkshier the marriage took place at st marks woodhouse leeds she died & was burried in leeds
can anyone see a susannah walker with father john that i,m missing

Hi Jacky,

We could really do with John's occupation - you say it is unreadable??

Can't promise but I have had a lot of success in the past reading very poorly written certs.

If you wan't to scan it and e-mail me a copy I would be willing to have a try.

Let me know and I will send you my direct e-mail address.

P.S. - Who are the witnesses - they are often usefull?

Hi Jacky,

Just received it - Occupation looks like 'Mason' to me.

Jacky Report 24 Feb 2010 13:30

lol well you got further than me HA HA
what do you think of her fathers name i,m saying its says john & not james as the person who married them was called james abbott & it looks like it was him that filled out the marrige cert & where he has signed his own name james to me doesn,t look the same as where he has put john for fathers name

Is there an exact address in Close Street given? Just wondered if we could narrow down who was there on the 1871 census.

hi dea
if i get her death cert would it name her parents or would it just name her husband & maiden name & what she died of ???

jacky

Dea

Dea Report 24 Feb 2010 14:20

It would not name her parents, unless one of them was the informant on her death cert - then that one would be mentioned.

Sorry,

Dea x

MargaretM Report 24 Feb 2010 14:20

Don't rely on info from a death certificate. Sometimes it's not even a family member who registers the death. My gt. grandfather's death certicicate told me nothing other than what he died from. It was registered by someone who worked for him.
