Hi Everyone,

I shall take time to look into all the info..............but heres what I know:

Frances married George Radford at St. Marys Portsea........her address was Kingston Cross ( think this is now Kingston Crescent) and St Marys would be a mile down the road. She married a gunner in the Royal Arttilary 1867 she had a son George 1869 (he was registered in an area that Wickham comese under). It might be that her parents moved to Portsmouth or that she did and the other sister, Amelia followed............looks like she's in service. ! at 13.
I will have to see if it was a move to the Buckland/Kingston area of Portsmouth that is the answer.................or even Old Portsmouth /Portsea.
Regards,
Pam

Sorry Pamela, but I've just checked 1841 census and there is another Amelia Hawkins:-
Amelia Hawkins abt 1838 Hampshire, England Portsea Town, Hampshire
so she could be the one in 1851 census.

Pamela Report 9 Jan 2010 18:06

Thanks Catherine................ for the info about sister Caroline have followed that up and found she married shortly after ( Henry Churcher) and moved to Shedfield..........just outside of Wickham. This still leaves mum and dad, William and Ann, her twin brother William, sister's Ann, Louisa, Eliza, Harriet, Amelia and brother George.

Can't think what happened to them...........I did think that the page with them on in the 1851 census got lost or destroyed...........but it can't have happened again for 1861 ?
Rg,
Pam

Not the right age for your Eliza, but I found an Eliza 47, a spinster marrying 1854,on the Knightroots site while browsing in the Portsmouth area.
Her father William was a shoemaker.

Yes...............Hi Gywn,

That Eliza is my grx3 Williams Hawkins sister.................she married John Stares not John STONES ( Knightsroots: the name is wrong) he was a neigbhour of hers in Wickham. They married when his wife died. they returned to live in Wickham ( may have got married in Portsmouth to avoid "local gossip"). But the interesting thing is the address was given as Buckland........... which is more or less just along the road from Kingston Cross where Frances was living !!..............as you can see I have managed to trace other members of the family.

Pamela

Pamela Report 9 Jan 2010 18:42

Catherine .............that makes Eliza 2 pages ahead...............I wonder if her parents are somwere ther ?

Not sure if this is of any help or only muddying the waters further !!

The Hampshire baptism Index 1752-1812 has 51 baptisms of William HAWKINS (:o(

The only one baptised at Wickham is:-
22 Oct 1797-William HAWKINS s William & Ann (!!)

This seems to be their marriage (there are 28 for the same period)
19 January 1795 at Wickham
William HAWKINS
Ann KNIGHT

The only William Hawkins baptised at Crondall was:-
23 Apr 1807 s Robert & Sarah

I think the baptisms of the children are on the IGI but from the Index
Children of William & Ann baptised at Wickham
17 Jan 1830-William
17 Jan 1830-Caroline
03 Feb 1833-Eliza
22 Mar 1835-Harriet
19 Mar 1837-Amelia
23 Aug 1839-Georeg
29 Oct 1841-Frances

Cannot find Ann

I have looked for a marriage for William and Ann and the only one which fits is:-
15 December 1824 at Whitsbury (very much a ? )
William HAWKINS
Marianne PERKINS

there is one in 1827 at Compton for a William HAWKINS and Hannah ROGERS in 1827 which looked intersting but the children are all baptised "William & Hannah"

but NO baptisms for a William & Marianne--just the ones for William and Ann

Hi Elizabeth
..............sorry for taking time to reply........but I am sure the info you have found about William Hawkins and Ann Knight m. Wickham1795 is the next generation up. I know William b. in abt 1802 ( this is who I am looking for in1851/61 census) was the son of this William and Ann and it's possible he was older i.e., b 1797. The baptisms for the William and Ann children are my family,,,,,,,,,,the Frances b. Oct 1841 is my grx2 grandmother. So you have been very, very, helpful and I thank you.
And the other interesting bit is that Ann was a Knight..........as this is another part of my family from the same area ie Wickham and Hambledon in Hampshire I am going to see if the connection within in the families is even stronger....Ann's grandaugther went on to marry a Knight !!!!!!!
Best Regards,
Pam

ElizabethK

ElizabethK Report 12 Jan 2010 11:38

Hi Pam

No - it is an index that I have, not sure if the original would give name of father that far back.but I think this is him

Baptism at Wickham
22 Jul 1769-William HAWKINS s William & Mary

but which Mary ? !

Marriage-22 June 1758 at Buriton
William HAWKINS
Mary MARNER

Marriage-28 June 1758 at South Warnborough
William HAWKINS
Mary MARLOW

there is not a marriage at Wickham.

William and Mary also baptised 2 other children at Wickam
22 Nov 1761-Jane
18 Nov 1764-Betty

Buriels-Wickham
28 Apr 1784-Ann
12 Nov 1794-William
18 Apr 1827-Ann 50
23 Nov 1819-Mary 80
23 Nov 1828-Mary 93

I have these Hampshire Indexes
Marriages 1754-1837
Baptisms 1752-1841
Buriels 1400-1837

so if I can help - just ask !

Hi Elizabeth,
Thank you for your help so far. The info on the Hawkins will go into my notes as anything now may prove useful later. The Hawkin family seems to have been around Wickham since way back........... Same as another branch of my family the Daysh and Ings Daysh family.

Once again thanks and I shall carry on looking for William and Ann in the 1851/61 census..............I have found some of the children (thanks to others on this thread ) but not my grx2 grandmother.
Bye for now,
Pam
