Trying to find Winton

Looking for an EDWARD GEORGE WINTON born around 1868-1872.I have two possiblities for his birthplace. One is Peace River in Canada and the other is Liverpool UK. I am leaning toward the Liverpool birthplace given that he actually gave this when filling out his children's birth registrations. I have been unable to find any trace of him in either location. The family has also used 'de Winton' interchangeably over the years, so not sure if I am looking for Winton or de Winton. The only other info I have on Edward is that his fathers name was George and that George was possibly an innkeeper. There is a story that Edward stowed away on a ship at about 14 years and this is how he came to be in Australia. He first shows up in Australian records in 1893 on his marriage. Would love to find out the origins of this bloke, he is driving me nuts. Regards, Megan |
