Go ahead and order the certificate yourself via www.groireland.ie

Print off the appropriate application form and post it.

A full certificate cost about the same as in England if you have a date and you know which county or town they were born in. A couple of pounds extra if you only give an approx year.

You will be charged in €'s but it will appear on you CREDIT card in £'s.

I've ordered loads of Irish BDM certificates that way myself.

Brian, if you know the date and name, why not just apply for the cert to the Irish GRO?

Wendy, you are too early for a birth certificate. They only came in force around 1864 in Ireland.

Hi Wendy

I know from my surfing today at Irish records nearly all the census records except for fragments have been lost before 1901 with fires and various episodes of destruction. There are some sites you can search that are church related with limited information. After 1901 is a little better but no gro on line to search I could find. Its a bit of a slog but I will let you know how I go on.

Hope its better over there, howling gale here with sleet in Lancashire.

I have contacted a professional certificate and genealogy reseacher in Dublin regarding the costs involved in obtaining a birth certificate for me in Dublin . I know the date in 1919 and the name of parents.
Has anyone done this before? and what are the usual costs involved for this sort of thing?
