Not sure if anyone can help, but if you could, would be very much appreciated.
Just started on my scots side of the tree.lol Is it common for parents to name their first born child with their mothers maiden name in the middle? Eg-Margaret McLay Brown. Is it a clan thing?
thank you

My mother in law, b. in Aberdeen has her mother's maiden name and her maternal grandmother's maiden name tacked into the middle of her group of names.

....Fairly normal I think.

Forgot to say...
She is a 2nd daughter.
Her older sister's middle name is the maiden name of their paternal grandmother.

Hi Catherine

Yes, it is common. No, it's not a clan thing, just a family thing.

Cheers
