You can trace some familyies using the Civil Registration indexes for Births and Marriages. After about 1912 the maiden name of the mother is included in the births index, so if you relatives married at the turn of the last century you can maybe identify their children.

And if you identify the death records there may be a will available, very useful sometimes for identifying relatives alive at that time.

Of course, it is increasinly likely your relatives born after 1920 might still be alive!
