ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

There is a lovely item on Ebay, including certificates, letter etc relating to the Gee and Guilliat families of Barnetby Lincolnshire, from WW1 era.

I have messaged one person with Louisa Guilliat in their tree, but others may be interested.

EBay Item No 200197368597

Happy hunting.

Daisy,

I would love to find something like this collection, and would hate someone to miss the chance! There is nothing like original certificates and the letter included in the item would be a real treasure.

Lets hope someone spots it.

Love,
Elisabeth

How nice of you, I hope she reads your message before the auction finishes.
I saw a family bible on ebay and saw that someone on here had the family in their tree, so I sent them a message but never heard anything!
Hope you hear
Ann

Ann,

I have been out since lunchtime, and had hoped that someone had spotted their family on this. I have done this before, but never had any feedback on them. I think there are so many people who register and never come back to the site. Such a shame to miss out on a treasure.

I would love it to have been my family.

Elisabeth
I have had a look at the item and like you would love for it to have been my family, what a find!
Someone has put a bid in for it, so someone is interested, but maybe not for family history reasons

Ann,

That bid was already on when I found it last night. I do hope someone really finds the right family to bring it home.

The auction for these lovely items finally finished this afternoon and after a bidding frenzy, they finally went for £97, so someone really wanted them! Hope it was someone with a genuine interest in their family history and not just a dealer.

Maybe it was one of the people I contacted on this site.

Elisabeth

Update - I have just checked the buyer to see what he has purchased before, and he is obviously a collector/dealer if WW1 paperwork. Shame - I hoped it would go to the family concerned.

I see from a thread posted today(11th) that someone has complained to GR about people doing this,(using the site to alert peole to items coming up on e-bay)I believe it has led to someone having their name removed, so be careful!

Mmmm
I have thiss weekend received a pm from someone on GR informing me of a book which was on ebay, and as I have someone in my tree named in the book they thought I would be interested in it. I took a look at the item and am very interested, there were no bids on the book, and I put a starting bid in.
I then sent a pm to the person on Gr and thanked him, and told him I had placed a bid.As I felt this was the polite thing to do
I then began to get a bit suspicious and checked the name of the seller on Ebay and his name was also Mark. Today I have checked and low and behold I have been outbid, by someone who wishes to keep there identity private. I have not placed another bid, but have bought the book from Amazon for the price I placed my bid for.
Very suspicious

Bet (Elizabeth)

I did not put up this thread with any other motive than to alert people to an lovely item on Ebay. Sorry to all if it was inappropriate - I have done it before without a problem.

I will have to take a hold on my enthusiasm in future.

I know Bet, we had discussions about the rudeness of people who didnt reply.
I too will have to curb my helpfulness I think.

Perhaps I should make it clear, that I have no connection to the seller of the item I highlighted, or the family concerned for that matter. I was merely trying to alert anyone connected to the lovely items.

I did have replies from two of the people I contacted via PMs , but I don't think either of them was the buyer.

I will not be passing on information in the future, if MY motives might come into question.

Oh Elisabeth
I dont think anyone was questioning YOUR motives at all.
But like you I will not be passing on any information I find.

best wishes

Such a shame if people have been using GR messages for their own gain.
Like Elisabeth, I hoped this would go to family.

I too have alerted people in the past, for no other reason than if something was on e bay related to my family, I would have liked to have been told.
