Where would I find Court records

Hi

Not sure if these are available, but I have been trying to trace my great grandmother. My nan was placed in a childs home because according to family story her mum was a prostitute. Would this of been recorded, what I mean is would she of been charged with this and a record of it be held somewhere, as I thought if her children ended up in a home she might of been put in prison. My nan was born in 1921 but not sure how old she was when she was put into a home.

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks
Tracie.

If your great grandmother was taken to court, then it would probably have been to a magistrates court. The records for these hearings should be at the local archives for the area, and they are available to view if they are more than 30 years old.

I managed to find the magistrate court records for the time my grandmother took my grandfather to court for maintenance when he deserted her in the 1920's.

These are in the original court journals and are not online anywhere.
