Hi all, trying to find deaths for ancestors that were born early part of last century (1900-10s). COuld anyone help me by letting me know which years are avalable to search online and those which haven't been done yet? I seem to be able to get up to about 1916ish and then from about 1980ish.

Thanks, I really feel I should know the answer to this but don't know where to look! Karen x

Sept 1837 - 2005 available online
1837 to c 1920 available although not completely transcribed use freebmd
although anything after about 1920 need a subscription site
ancestry or findmypast
you can then search the full indexes
1837 to 1920 available although not completely transcribed use freebmd

All years are available from 1837-2005..........but from about 1920 onwards they are only on a pay-to-view basis.

On findmypast you can purchase units........on Ancestry, you have to subscribe.

Hmmm... I'm subscribed to Ancestry but they don't seem to be coming up. Will persevere if I know they are there! Thanks for your help! Karen x

I had a similar problem and was told that when on ancestry you need to go to the search option then look down the right hand side of the page. There you will find "browse records". Look under historical records and you can choose BMD etc. Hope it works, I found a lot more records this way. This is I believe all records as some have not yet been transcribed so if you just look at the "search" option it is looking at limited records. Hope this makes sense.

To the right of the main search box.....look down the options listed till you find England & Wales bmd index.......click on that.

You then have to look through the images qtr by qtr............

Thank you thank you thank you! You wonderful people! Didn't really have a clue on dates so thought it was going to take ages! But, have found the main 2 people almost straight away (thought I'd start from last known date for each and they both died within 2 years of this! How lucky am I?!
