Tracing French relatives

I believe my fathers Uncle married a french woman and moved to France possibly at the end of the First World War.. Does anyone know how I could go about tracing them? thanks Judy P

Hi Judith,

Ummmmmmm could be difficult getting BMD info from France as they have a strict 100 year rule. Did they marry in UK or France. Do you know where they settled in France?

Was he a soldier? If so the marriage may be recorded in one of the GRO overseas indexes for the military. Otherwsie the GRO consul marriages may include the details if the marriage was reported to the Consul/embassy overseas

Thanks so much you have given me some things to go on. I do not know his name, just his surname - Mansfield, or if he married here or in France. I have a postcard from near Reims.
