Have you tried WW1 service records. Go into British Army WW1 Pensions. Above this on screen is Military Records (underlined). Click on this and then scroll down to Search Individual Titles.

In this category is British Army WW1 Service Records 1914-1920.

I have found enlightening information for one of my relatives in this section. He didn't receive a pension as he deserted.

Sorry if you already know all this.

Regards Lynn

Hi Sylvia,

There were 5 pages in total and I did check them all. I wasn't holding out much hope of finding further info but you never know unless you ask!

Thanks

Did you read every page that was on that site?

You just click on next page until you reach as new name.

As far as other places .................. most of the records from WW1 were destroyedf by bombing in London during WW2, and then by fire at Kew where they were moved for safety after the bombing!

As I understand it, ancestry is downloading the records from those that did survive

I have found the army pension records of one of my ancestors on Ancestry. He only served for just over a year and the reason for discharge was given as 'No longer physically fit for war service'.

Are there any other records available anywhere that might tell me why?
