Hello,

I am stuck on how to research further back on 2 names in my family tree and would welcome any helpful hints or suggestions.

One name is Archibald Hill - do not know where he was born, but according to the census b1830 approx - he had a wife Matilda b 1832 Liverpool and a duaghter Henrietta b1850 Liverpool.

I can not find Archibald or Henrietta on any census until 1871 - any suggestions welcome.

Also, I have a Charles Johnson b1852 Liverpool approx but can't go further back as I don't know his father's name.

I would be grateful for any help.

Regards

Rachel

Hi L,

Thank you - Yes that's them - thank you! I see the eldest child Henriette (I have her name as being Henrietta) is 11 years old - that means that she should appear on the 1851 census (hopefully with her parents) - can you see if you can find them please?

(obviously their son is Archibald as well, and Archie Snr. was born in Middlesex, cant decipher where but it says Near London, not Amestard the London.)

I wonder if Archibald's birthplace given in 1861 was Hampstead, and the enumerator just couldn't understand his accent?
