Does anyone know - when a death is registered does the persons name have to be their birth registered name?
My gt grandmother Rhoda Pearson ( nee Latter) died around 1930 after a tragic accident but despite searching many times thro the bdm lists I can find no trace. She was always called Annie ( middle name Ann). It is possible her death was registered under that name?

The name would be 'as known' to the person registering it.......likewise her age.

My Nan was always known as Maud Edith when actually she was Edith Maud. on her death cert in 1989 it has Maud Edith otherwise Edith Maud and she has a death ref under both names

Maud Edith White 4 Dec 1904 Apr 1989 84 Walsall Staffordshire

Edith Maud White 4 Dec 1904 Apr 1989 84 Walsall Staffordshire

When a death is registered as far as I know the name does not have to match birth cert. My grandmother never married my granfather but her death was registered using his Surname because she had been known for many years by that name. No change by deed poll etc, people merely knew her by that name.

my great grandmother was:

Born - Eleanor Katie
married- kate
childrens births- Eleanor
died Kate Eleanor.

like Reggie said it's whatever the informant knows them as. ages and names are often not quite right.

I agree its what info the informant thinks they know!!

i have birth certs for rellies that were reg by their Dad as if both parents were married (which they werent cos found the marriage some 4 years later!!) The Mums christian name is given as the name hubby called her which is different to her given/reg name. Its only that i knew the rellies and the names that i was able to identify the GRO refs.
