Saving list of bookmarks/favourites from Netscape

Since Netscape is no longer going to be supported as of March 1st, I wanted to save my list of bookmarks.

The computer I am using is Windows98. I have managed to copy them into a word document for the time being, but they are listed as addresses, rather than links.

I would like to save them as links, for easier viewing and accessing, and also to transfer them to my other computer which is Vista.

Any suggestions?

is it the whole address of the website you have on there, if so then you can go to the end of the address, hit enter and it should create a link to the website, word should recognise it as a weblink, especially on vista

I had already thought of that, but I have a LOT of bookmarks - probably about 30 or so pages in the word document that I cut and paste - and they are not organized!!

I was hoping for a short cut that could let me see the address right off, so I can get them organized before I transfer them to Vista.

But if I have to hit enter at the end of every line, then that's the way I have to go.........

Which browser are you going to use instead of Netscape?

You should be able to export your bookmarks from Netscape and import them into the new browser. Firefox certainly allows you to import from Netscape.

If you're intending to carry on using Netscape, just export them to a file ready to be imported if you ever do change browser.

I don't have a copy of Netscape any more, but the command should be something like Bookmarks - Export.

Hi Mary.

Export got me what I wanted. It lists the site names as links rather than addresses. Tried to also save the list in a word document, but the listings wouldn't convert to links when I clicked on them. Just hope the exported list will open in whatever browser I end up using.

I haven't thought about what browser to use yet - only became aware of the March 1st deadline this week.....still have a few days to decide!!

Thanks for your help.

You'll still be able to use Netscape after the deadline, it just won't be updated, so you'll gradually start to find that some sites won't work properly.

I like Opera, which is think is the fastest browser, but Firefox was designed by the same people as Netscape, and you'll find it works in a similar way. It has a matching e-mail program called Thunderbird which is very similar to the Netscape mail program.

The other one is Internet Explorer, which is the most common, but leaves you much more open to viruses and malware than the others.
