I'm not sure if it was the same in Scotland, but in England, although registration began in 1837, it only became compulsory in 1875.

In Scotland registration started in 1855, so perhaps it wasn't compulsory in the early years. If it wasn't then you may have to look at parish records for a burial instead.

im trying to find death record of a jane wilson born1844 think lochmaben?
death 1857
her parents were thomas wilson and ann wilson nee richardson no thomas was from lochmaben
tryed on scotts people but canot find
just like to say thankyou to all thats helped in past
