Richard Fearnley - 1851 census help needed

Victoria Report 29 Feb 2008 23:53

Hi

After finding everyone who reads these boards extremely helpful in my search for Alfred Midgley I thought I'd try another of my relatives I'm stumped with. My great great grandmother Martha Fearnley was born in 24.10.1856 in Stanningly, Bradford. The family moved soon after this to Leeds. It's her parents I would like help with. Her sister Fanny was born around 1855 but we think her parents married around 1851. We think he was Richard Fearnley and she was Ann Barnes but after requesting a marriage certificate for them none could be found. In 1861 Richard is listed as married, 40 and a boiler maker but his wife isn't on the census. Then in 1871 Ann Fearnley, Wife, 48 is on the census but no Richard. By 1881 both Richard, 63 and Ann, 59 are on the census together.

If anyone is feeling inclined to do some detective work for me I would really appreciate the 1851 census for Richard and Ann and maybe the birth record for Martha.

I'm not a member of ancestry so the 1851 census is unavailable to me.

Anyway, thanks to anyone who feels inclined to do this for me. I feel a bit cheeky asking so won't be offended if I don't get any replies. Always worth a try though!!!!

Victoria.

You will need to buy a birth cert to get Ann's maiden name.

Hi Sylvia,

The Stanningley birthplace might help to find Ann in 1851 though.

Hi

I am constantly surprised at how busy everyone on here is!!! 14 replies overnight - fantastic! It all looks very interesting so far. I have the Coopers Court census's from 1861, 71 and 81 from Findmypast.com. I wonder where Ann was in 1861? I found an Ann Barnes in Bolling Street, Bradford the right age but she's unmarried. I can't remember if I tried looking for Ann Fearnley in 1861.

I thought there must be two Richard Fearnley's in Bradford who married Anne's but this is confusing me a lot!!! I suppose you can't ever 100% sure you've got the right person?

Thankyou again. Victoria.
