Hi

I have lots of relations from Woolwich also. Most of mine have been buried in the Plumstead Cemetary

here is the address for itPlumstead Cemetery
Cemetery Road
(off Wickham Lane)
Abbey Wood
SE2 0NS

A quite large cemetery. I also contacted the Greenwich Council parks and gardens department, and were able to tell me where my rellies were buried, provided I had a name, year and date of death for them. The phone number you need is this one

020 8856 2232

I quite often go up to Woolwich once every couple of months in search of ancestors, so if there is a particular name your in search of, let me know and I will keep an eye open for it next time I am there and take a piccy of the gravestone. The Woolwich Heritage Centre is also a brilliant place for your research and the staff there are so helpful.

If you want to buy a BMD cert, here
is the addy where you can buy it online..

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

(tip)Never pay more than £7
(another tip) for a marriage, you only need
put one partners name when ordering.

If you are ordering online from the GRO,
make sure that when the form asks
"Is the full GRO reference known?"
that you tick the "yes" box.

Plumstead and Woolwich are under the London Borough of Greenwich

their website is www.greenwich.gov.uk

Details of cemetries etc on the website. Staff were very helpful when phoned trying to locate a grave, gave me the plot number and sent me a map.

Selena

PS I agree with Reg, the quickest way to get a certificate is usually through the GRO online.

The easiest way to apply for the cert is on line from the GRO

I've been given a load of old family photos and there is one of a grave which states Jane Gray died August 1954 aged 68 yrs.

On the back, it just states Plumstead but the Registration District on Ancestry is Woolwich.

Which Register Office would I apply to for a copy of the death certificate?

Are there many cemeteries covering the Plumstead areas?

Thanks
