Thanks for your replies, I found out that it was Isabel, so the nickname probably related to the sister thing.

Our Auntie Cissie was really Rebecca, but again the only sister in a family of six.

My mum had an uncle "Sis" - real name was Cecil, and my dad remembers a cousin of his mother's who married "Cissie" - her real name was Elizabeth!

I'm another one who had an aunt Sis...Her actual name was Georgina and she was named Sis because she was the only girl in the family of boys.

My Mum was Sis to everyone - but she was called Edith.

She was given the name by her three brothers and it stuck with everyone until she died in her 70s.

My mother remembers her aunt was called Sis, this is obviously short for something. Any ideas of her real name will be appreciated.
