I've ordered the Death Cert from Scotlandpeople.
It was easier to do than I thought.

Just followed all the instructions, which seemed a better option than phoning.
Yes I did have to buy £6 of credits and the Cert was £10.
Now i' ll sit back and wait.

Thank you all for guiding me through this.

Thank you very much everyone, you are all brilliant.

I'll phone Cambuslang first thing monday morning.

I could kiss you all.

Many thanks, Maggie

One last thing,

Would the cert give the address where the person lived or just where they died.

As the production of certificates is being done by the same GRO staff irrespective of where they are ordered it may be that ordering through GRO direct would be no faster. Just a thought. Another option would be to approach the local registration office at Cambuslang?

The Registration/Area Office Services provide a statutory function on behalf of the Registrar General for Scotland, recording registration information for births, deaths and marriages within South Lanarkshire.

Hi Maggie,

General Register Office for Scotland ( GROS ) is a government run service based in New Register House, Edinburgh which records and collates all scottish births, marriages and deaths along with other related information.
A personal visit is required to search their records although extracts may be ordered by post if you have the correct details..

http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/famrec/index.html

The above website will give you all the details you need to order certificates by post and includes printable application forms
£13 per extract from gro scotland

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

Scotlands people however, is an online service.
The above website will give you all the details you need to search for and order certificates online.
You will have to first register then purchase £6 worth of credits to bring up your searches.
1 credit to view your search results individually and 5 credits to view certificate online although this only applies from 1855 to 1957.
An extract has to be ordered after 1957.

£10 per extract from Scotlands People.

Time wise since you have all the correct details it will probably be quicker to order from GROS as I have been quoted around 25 days for delivery from Scotlands People.

Hope this clears it all up,
Frank

Hi Maggie,

I have never ordered a certificate from Scotlands People before they just started doing this recently.

I always ordered mine via the General Register Office for Scotland.

However it does say on Scotlands people you can order it from them, don't know how much it would cost though.

Hi Betty,
Would the ref number be

573/00 0020

or would there be a PAGE and VOL number as for England/ Wales.

Hi Betty,

Thank you very much for finding it.
Do you know where i have to send for the Cert?
Either on-line or by post.
It's the first time I've had to do a Scottish Cert.

Thanks, Maggie

Hi Maggie,

I tried again and used the mothers maiden name again still nothing came up.

Maggie Report 8 Mar 2008 01:56

Hello Betty,

I put in the mother's name MILLER.

I tried between 1970 and 2005 and just "1 death"came up, then narowed it down to 2003.
There were so many registration places, i got fed up clicking on them.
I phoned my friend and was given CAMBUSLANG as the place where the family lived, so when i put that in, it came up " 1 death"

That's why I.m assuming this is the correct one.
If you have any ideas of finding if this is correct, I'd welcome any help.

Thanks MAGGIE

Could someone please tell me where do I obtain a Death Cert.
I have found 1 Death for

William Garvie 2003 Cambuslang.

If I bought some credits, would it give me any more info.
Where would I apply to get this Death Cert and would I need more details before I applied.

I have no idea what Quarter he died or the ref no.

Thanks Maggie
