Genes Tree Birth / Death Date Problem

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Hi

I use TMG as my research database and transfer the information over to Genes via a gedcom every time I update it.

Each birth and death date is recorded twice ie

Birth/Death Reg: Dec 1870
Birth/Death: 11 Dec 1870 or bet Oct and Dec 1870

I key it twice so that I can record the district on the first and the actual address on the second.

The problem I have is that when it transfers over because I end up with no dates in the little box on the tree and bet 18 in the birth / death date notes.

Can sks tell me if there is a way around this without me changing all my info on TMG.

Regards

It sounds a though you are recording the dates as notes on TMG rather than in the 'proper' birth field. So when you create a gedcom the true date field is empty.

Hi Peter

Thanks a million for coming back to me.

I am recording the births and deaths using the correct tags which have been created for us by TMG and entering them as "bet jan and mar 1904 if the exact date is not known.

It seems to be that the date box will only accept a certain number of digits and if there are more, it reads from the left hand side ie bet 19.
