Thanks both, I've never come across 2 children with the same name before, Well not without the first one dying. Both Mary's had middle names so is a possibility.

Will see if I can find a marriage for her and get cert to check father. Thanks again

Another thing to consider...
I have instances in my tree where I thought I had 2 children with teh same name... turns out that the seconmd one was in fact an ilegitimate child to one of the children and hence a grandchild.- named after a favourite sibling. Is that a possibility in your case? Syuggest getting the birth certs for your marys which will tell you for sure who teh mother was.

will get marriage cert first and then the 2nd mary's birth. have to limit myself at the moment, this list of certs to get is at a silly length :(
