How do I transfer information?

Hi, I don't know if this is where I need to ask this question or not but here goes.

I have been granted access to other peoples trees which are all part of my tree. What I would like to know is there a way in which I can transfer the information to my computer and also if there is a way in which it can be listed so that it doesn't take so much paper when printing.

I love the way it is set out on the site but to print off the tree uses rheems of paper. I have seen some people who have it all simply printed and are able to have several people listed on a single sheet of paper, unlike here where you may only have 3-4 people when you print it off.

Thanks for any help.

The only way to transfer data from other people's trees to your own is to retype each person unless the owner of the tree is prepared to send you a GEDCOM file containing the info. You then need some seperate family tree software which will allow you to merge it with your tree.

Also, make sure you get the permission from the other people before just copying their data, some people don't like it and anyway, how can you be sure it is correct unless you research it yourself?

TYhe best way to print your tree is to get some family tree software installed onto your computer and do it from there.

Thanks Sam, I have got permission from the person and it is the correct tree. I have all the same information handwritten in folders but some of the extended families aren't yet on the handwritten form (some of the children and the death dates). I thought it would be easier if I was able to add it to my tree then eventually add it to the handwritten one.

Thanks for the help. I will also ask if they have a Gedcom file and are able to send it to me.

Thanks again,
Jennylee
