Teddys Girl Report 14 Mar 2008 10:57

Reading most amusing cause of death, and seeing where some Vicars had put pieces about bastard babies, brings to mind when I was looking through copies of Parish Records.

One had name of child, then the vicar added - Bastard child of .....who was the father in law of the mother. Her mother told me that her daughter was was sleeping with her father in law, and she did not want to have anymore to do with her daughter.

Another one read the same., but this time the child was the bastard child of the husband's brother, and everyone was talking about it.

All these records in the 1700's.

I saw on some parish records this comment from the vicar:-

Robert, bastard son of Jane Wilkins, alleged father,
William Bentley.
