how would i go about seeing any information of relative who was policeman i no he was police constable,living at 13 north end police station,croydon surrey that was in 1891,and on his sons marriage cert in 1917 he was retired,his name was
Frederick Stephen Frank Gooch,just trying to fill in the gaps thank you for any advice or help you can give

If you go to the photodatabase and click on PS Benjamin Newton, you will see an article that I submitted about my Grandad, with a photograph of him.

Find out which force he was in and contact the records office for that area. It is very possible that his whole personal file may be there and it will be the best find you have ever had, with information not only about him but his family as well. There will also be a photograph.

Bear in mind that he would have been a member of a Borough Police Force, as I doubt that the present day Surrey Constabulary would have been in existence then.
