My Great Grandfather - where is he?? John William

Have asked before about generally finding him, until he married my GGM in 1912, he seems to not exist, his marriage certificate says his father was a George who was dead at time of marriage and was in the Merchant Navy to make it difficult. Both witnesses were connected to GGM. Family hearsay is that he came from Strood, Kent but only John William Slater in Kent had a father called Richard who was a labourer. Hearsay could be not true. Have been now searching for over 2 years. Question, I have marriage and death certificate but will local records tell me date of birth or any other info for him, he was married and died in East London?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreicated. He must be somewhere!!

love
D

His name was John William Slater, he was born circa between 1879 and 1883, he married Margaret Ellen Quinn in East London in 1912 and he was 29 at age of marriage, he died in East London in 1926, age on death certificate says he was 46 at date of death. Hearsay is that he was born in Kent, Strood but as I said only John William Slater had a father called Richard and his father is George on the marriage certificate. Determined to solve this somehow.

thanks Dawn

Several births for the time period but only one in Kent:
Births Jun 1879 (>99%)
Slater John William N. Aylesford 2a 473

N Aylesford covers Strood

Thank you Potty, believe this to be the one with Richard as the father but think I will bite the bullet and order it anyway.
