Linzi,

Do you have any names we can look for?

Thanks Heather. I can't find any trace of it in Uk records. Do you think it may depend on wether it was an American ship or an English one?

Hello Linzi-My grandmother was married on board ship of the coast of Western Australia in1891-I got a copy of the certificate from Perth WA so the marriage must have been registered by poss.the captain when the ship docked -as your ship was coming to UK could the marriage have been registered here-Heather

It would almost certainly be recorded in the ship's log - if that has survived.

Unlikely to have made it to the GRO however, as ship's captains were only required to report births and deaths on board their vessels, not marriages.

Take a look at the following link for further guidance:

Was marriage at sea permitted? Certainly, the GRO have indexes of births and deaths at sea, but not one for marriages.

If sombody got married on a ship in round about 1894 is there any way you could find the record? The ship was sailing from America to the UK.
