Is free bmd share the site where you can add all the information you have on certificates you have bought so that other people can read it and not have to pay for a cert. Naturally, you will have to be very fortunate to find one you are actually looking for.

Oops, Bernie had already explained this.

BMDshare is a site where you enter details of certificates you have - so if no-one bothers to input anything then there is nothing to be viewed!
I put all my UK ones on yonks ago. Have you added yours?

Selena in South East London

Selena in South East London Report 19 Mar 2008 16:45

Hello Gala,

Don't put in exact years i.e.1891 for a marriage etc. Use a broad range for example start 1880 end 1900.

If it is an unusual surname, leave off the first name.

Also click the box 'phonetic search' if it is a name that might be mispelled, for example Clarke or Clark

Hope that helps, if not let us know who you are looking for.

www.bmdsearch.com seems to just take you to the results on Ancestry, which are from FreeBMD anyway. Better off just to use www.FreeBMD.org.uk.

FreeBMD?

Try it with a really common name like Smith.

You need to click on an option - All Types, Births, Marriages or Deaths.

Don't do what I occasionnaly do and enter the surname in the forename box 'cos that usually doesn't work either!
