excellant because I'm getting to the point now where I have no idea lol

I have my tree saved on here but would like one on my computer that I can refer to when researching.

Hannah... Can definetly confirm the one from play.com is the 2006 edition, very user friendly got mine a couple of weeks ago....and the 30 days Ancestry is great as my sub ran out end of January, and I later found things I needed to check on.

Well, it appears they are temporarily out of stock now!

Hi Heather, I did read the spec on the play website but if you read it correctly it states that the spec is the manufacturers spec not the spec of the actual disk they are selling, that's what led me to the "be careful" approach.

If you say it's okay then that's good enough.

Everything tends to be cheaper through Play, possibly because they are based in Jersey and not on mainland. They often seem to have sales too. I use them quite often, have done for around 5 years, and never had a problem so far.

Ron, several people have bought that one from play.com - it has all the features and a months free sub - I dont know why its cheaper than the home site, may be they over stocked but certainly it has the full whack. If you read the actual product info for it on play.com you can check out that it is indeed the full version.

I also use Family Tree Maker 2006. It seems to be solid and dependable, and does pretty much everything to satisfy most users needs and requirements.

I think one of the reasons why I went for the one on play.com is because of the free subscription for 1 month. It'll be handy to give me that extra boost and then once I've had full use of ancestry.com I can decide where it's worth paying for a subscription or not.

I have been using a program from MyHeritage.com. It's great and free!

Well I've been onto Play.com and bought the family tree software and now I just have to wait!

Also bought myself a new game!

Seems funny that. The price on the play.com website is £5-99. In the photo on that site you can clearly see the GSP logo on the top right of the box, these are the people that make and sell the program in the U.K..

Yet going to the GSP website reveals a price of £9-99.

Be careful that the one offered on play.com is not the starter edition, that version has some of the features dissabled.

Most of us have family tree maker. The new version is the 2008 which I bought and didnt like so Im still using my FTM 2006. I think play.com still have it for just £5.99 including a months free ancestry sub.

You can put all your info on there or import it from here, add photos, video clips, have your own free home page on the internet, back it up to cd or internet storage. Its all you need. Ill try to find the link for you to Play.com

Here you go - £5.99 - the months free sub is worth that alone - a bargain: paste the following into your address bar

Goodevening all,

Just a few questions to ask and I hope I'm not a pain in asking them!

What software does everyone use for storing their research and tree etc? Where do you get it from and how much did you pay for it?

Also has anyone bought any books on how to do their family tree? I bought one today in Waterstones and so far it looks quite good!

Sorry again for being a pain
