Pallots it's just an index of the entries in the original register. It sometimes gives a little aditional info, but not always.

What you need to do is find the original entry in the parish register it alludes to. For most of Middlesex this will currently be held at the LMA in Farringdon.

By that late a date 1823 Parish register entries were being filled out on standardised forms to government requirements and gave the following info:

Marriages solemnized in the Parish of:(parish)
In the county of: (county) in the year of:(year)

(grooms name) of (this/other) Parish(parish name) and (brides name) of (this/other) Parish (parish name)

were married in this(church/cathedral etc)-by (banns/license) with consent of (parents/guardian etc) this (first/second/third etc) Day of (month) in the year one thousand eight hundred and (year)

By me (Name of officiating minister)

This marriage was solemnised between us ( Bride and grooms name and signature or mark)

In the Presence of (Witnesses signatures and marks)

I think these came in first decade of the 1800's, before that date very much varied from parish to parish what the parish scribes would have recorded in the register, some gave a lot of detail others, perhaps most, didn't.

What church is it?

I found one of mine on Pallots (and also eventually on IGI but mistranscribed). It was at St John Horsleydown so I checked the website of the Local RO and they had a downloadable form for a request. It cost me £2 which I thought was excellent value. No parents' details of course but did give groom's occupation at time and witness details. Can't remember if it gave address too (am at work at moment and record is at home).

So, it's worth persevering.

If you look really closely at the Pallots card it should give the name of the church. But they're often a bit faint and difficult to read.

Thanks Keith,
The marriage was 1823 in middlesex, I've checked the IGI with no luck.

Thanks again

Brian if the marriage was pre 1837 (which I suspect it will be), there will not be a certificate. The best you could hope for would be a copy of the parish records entry for the marriage. In the early days these contained little information.
Have you checked the IGI to see if there is anything on there?

Hi,
I've located the marriage record card for one of my relatives, the card shows the names, location and date of the marriage.

My question is, would this be the only record available or should I carry on looking for a marriage certificate or a more detailed record of the marriage.

Regards

Brian
