Most local register offices now make a standing charge of £10.........for issuing a certificate,,,,,,,,,also some are willing some not and refer you to GRO Southport,

If you have just a mothers christian name and fathers can help also,,,,,,

No problem and no extra charge if you use the local (to the birth) reg office.

You don't need a GRO ref, just give some details (approx date, name of parent(s) etc and they will search the register for you.

If they cannot find an entry then they will not charge, you only pay (£7) IF they issue a cert.

A full list of local offices complete with address, phone, e-mail and url links (listee by county) can be found at

http://www.familytreeforum.com/wiki/index.php/The_British_Isles

Just click on the country then the county you need for the listings.

Thanks Kay. It would be about right if they both had fathers called David, considering it's in Merthyr I'd say it was fairly likely!
Thank you.

If you specify a parent name,,they should only send one that has it on,,so hopfully they dont both have a father David,,,,,,

they will only charge for the one they send,,,,,,,,

I want to order my g grandads birth cert. Only prob is there are two which fit the bill.

I know mine's dad was called David so do i place an order for both - with a reference check for fathers name on both?

Will they then only send me the one i want but charge me for both?

Sorry for my stupidity but i've not had this problem before.
