Found by googling.....always the best place to start...........

The Italian bombings on Palestine in World War II, which started in July 1940, were part of an Italian effort to strike at the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth of Nations where ever possible. The bombings in the British Mandate of Palestine were primarily centered on Tel Aviv and Haifa. However, many other coastal towns also suffered. On 9 September 1940, a bombing of Tel Aviv caused 137 deaths.[1][2]

I found a relative's death in the army in Haifa in 1940, it doesn't state the country on CWGC.

Haifa is now in Israel, but I believe that Israel was only established in 1947?

Has anyone an old atlas which shows which country Haifa was in in 1940?
