Thank you all for your replies.
Chris, He died ?June but I have noted the GRO Ref number so fingers crossed it's my rellie. I have his will which was administered 27/7/1837 so you may be right in that if he died early in June I might not be lucky.
Just got to wait now. Grrr.

For what BMD certificates contain have a look at this tutorial site...

I hope he died very late in June as registration didn't start until 1st July 1837.

The certificate will give the age at death but be aware this will only be as accuarate as the person who registered the death knew or guessed.

God luck
Chris

Hi

Death certs I've got are a bit later than that but they show when and where died, name and surname, sex, age, occupation, cause of death, signature and description and residence of informant, when registered and the signature of the registrar.

So yes it will give you his age at death - assuming whoever is registering the death knows how old he is.

Di, Death certs give when and where died, age occupation, cause of death and person who registered death. The problem is the age on the cert is supplied by the person who informs of death, they may or may not know the DOB.
Hope it gives you some clues though.

I know one of my ancestors died June 1837 and I think I have him on FreeBMD. Just what info was likely to be recorded on the cert please?. I have sent for it but can't wait for it to arrive. Hope it gives me age at death which will make it easier to confirm his birthdate.
